Mission:
To promote the creation of family-wage jobs, the diversification of the economic base, and the growth, development and retention of business and industry within the six-county district.
Establishment
MCEDD was formed in 1969 by its original member counties. The organization received federal designation as a District from the US Economic Development Administration in 1970. In March 2026, the the US Economic Development Administration approved a modification of the boundaries to include Gilliam County, Oregon.
MCEDD is organized as a government non-profit in Oregon as an ORS-190 and in Washington through RCW 39.34.010.
Governance
MCEDD is governed by a public-private board of directors representing counties, cities, ports, chambers, higher education and major private industries.
